Faculty of Business Studies

 

The Faculty of Business Studies focuses on research and teaching within the fields of economics and business administration. Our mission is to educate leaders and experts within these fields.

 

Our education aims for our students to be renowned for a strong academic education with a global emphasis. The curriculum is designed to give qualifications for operating in challenging leading and expert positions in a rapidly changing and globalizing corporate world.

 

Welcome to the Faculty of Business where we provide holistic training in business so as to produce well rounded graduates ready to unlock their potential in corporate, small and medium enterprises.


We run the following degree programmes:

The Bachelor of Commerce degree is designed to provide students with a wide range of managerial skills while at the same time building competence in a particular area. The course is offered with options in Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Banking.

 

The Bachelor of Business and Information Technology aims to prepare students to integrate information technology into regular business process.

 

The Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies Management prepares students to work in the procurement field in both public and private sectors. The course is structured to reflect the dynamic changes in purchasing and supplies worldwide.

 

The Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science is designed to create a foundation for students who would like to join the Actuarial profession. Students are taught analytical, statistical, computational and other development skills that will enable them to predict the financial effects of uncertain future events and carry out decision making analyses.

 

We also provide tuition to students who are pursuing professional certification by Chartered Institute of Purchasing (CIPS) UK. This is from certificate to graduate diploma level.

 

In addition, to the academic programmes, we provide management training and development to organization in both public and private sectors.

 

Currently the faculty has two departments namely: Department of Finance and Accounting and Department of Leadership, Marketing and Management

 

The following academic programmes are  currently offered:

  2. Bachelor of Purchasing and Supply
  3. Bachelor of Business and Information Technology
  4. Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science
  5. Business Process Outsourcing Division

Mary Mugo

Currently the Chair, Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Business. She is a Lecturer and Consultant in Leadership, Management and Marketing.  She has a Masters Degree in Strategic Management from United States International University, a Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Marketing(First Class Honors) from University of Nairobi and currently pursuing her PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management)

 

Before joining MMU, she worked as a Lecturer in Kenyatta University, Edith Cowan University, St. Paul University, Catholic University and Kenya Methodist University.

 

She has a wealth of experience in Marketing and Management having previously worked as Sales and Marketing Manager at 748 Air Services, Sales & Marketing Manager at Kenya Web.com, Brand Manager at Sc. Johnson and Company Operations Manager at Gap Promotions. She is also a trainer/consultant in Strategic Management, Leadership, Organizational behavior/change, Promotions and Merchandising and has consulted for various SMEs in Kenya. Her areas of research include Leadership, Marketing, Management and Human Resource Management.

Mary Woki Mukabi

She is a holder of Masters Degree (Strategic Management) from United States International University (USIU), a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from USIU.  She has previously worked with Kenya College of Communication and Technology (KCCT) as a full time lecturer; Part-time lecturer with Gretsa University. 

 

Other places worked are; Hotel Industry in Britain; Kenya Posts and Telecommunication Corporation (KP&TC) as Senior Postal Superintendent; Postal Superintendent; Postal Officer. She has undertaken research on effectiveness of strategies used by postal corporation of Kenya in parcel services. The impact of microfinance institutions on rural small scale enterprises

 

She has also written a business plan for Paws Africa for establishing a camping site and tourist accommodation facilities in Masai Mara. Current chair of university time tabling committee.Currently vice-chair person Shallom Girls College. She is currently pursuing her PhD.

Mary Alwoka Andika

She is a holder of a Masters degree in Procurement and Logistics from JKUAT, Bachelor of Business Administration (Account & Finance) from Kenya Methodist University. In addition she is a fully qualified accountant CPA ( K). She has previously worked as a part-time lecturer, Senior Internal Auditor, internal audit assistant at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

 

She has a wealth of experience, in accounting audit and procurement .she is currently pursuing her PhD in supply chain management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
