Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) cast itself in the Inter- University map of excellence when it emerged first in the premier academic symposium on media hosted by the United States International University (USIU) on Tuesday March 16, 2012. The Multimedia University College team scooped four of the five awards available thus stamping their authority as the top notch university college in the region offering media studies. The awards won by the MMU team were for the:

- Best Radio Team
- Best Summit Team
- Best Hard News

The Principal of Multimedia University College, Prof. Walter Oyawa while receiving the trophy from our jubilant students congratulated the students for winning the awards, and for moving MMU a step higher in the national academic arena. He strongly urged them to continue flying the Multimedia University College flag higher. In appreciation, the university threw a goat eating party for the winners and approved a trip to Western Kenya to further widen the horizon of the students.

The symposium whose theme was “Ethics in Media†attracted five top universities known for supplying the mainstream media industry with the human resource in both the electronic and print media, namely United States International University (USIU), Daystar University, St. Paul’s University, Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and Multimedia University College (MMU). Renowned personalities in the media industry, including Mr. Julius Bosire of Nation Media, Paul Oyier, a PR Consultant, Easy FM’s radio presenter Munene Nyagah and former NTV Sports anchor Bernard Oduor were among the experienced hands that facilitated the media awards ceremony.
