At the start of the game, the Trojans looked second fiddle in the match with the Vampires holding the ball much to the frustrations of the MMU.
But with their head coach George Jalang’o at the touch line to bring composure to his boys who were panicking as clearly seen with the several misplaced passes, the Trojans regained their form and were fully back in the game.
Â
Resulting from a combination of trickery and quick exchange of passes, the students got their first goal through Shamil Nyambegu, a win that gave them the much needed advantage just ten minutes before the break.
Â
Jared Kongini's pass at the 30th minute after the restart of the match spelled doom on Vampire men who thrashed MMU without any shred of mercy in the KUSA league last year.
Â
Kongini expertly passed the ball to Shamil deep from the midfield and with deflection from the forward it was game over as the Media men labored themselves to a 2-0 victory minutes before the end of the day.
Â
Experienced Shamil registered his name in the score sheet with his well executed brace two from Kongini in an attempt that was a mixture of individual brilliance and little bit of luck to send MKU goalkeeper throwing his hands in the empty space as the ball slips into the net.
Â
Even as Jalango’s side makes it to five wins out of five games, MKU will however curse the missed opportunities with their forwards missing several one on one encounters.
Â
Five one on one and four tap ins was how MKU coach Kevin Mwangi described the match and despite the loss, the coach was impressed with the way the boys played.
Â
“We played very well apart from the several missed chances this was one of the best games we have played and losing it after dominating is disappointing,†said the coach.
Â
However Jalang’o said it is a game of getting points where there is a winner and a loser adding that his boys could have won with a wider margin if they could have started the game with more seriousness.
Â
The win leaves MMU with 15 points from five matches having won all their matches while University of Nairobi comes second with 12 points from four games and MKU trails at position seven with 3 points from three games.
