Course Overview

 

 

The Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science is a four-year programme that aims at equipping students with sufficient relevant knowledge in theoretical and practical concepts of computer science. It prepares trainees to be able to adapt to new technologies and new ideas in the rapidly growing computer industry as well us enable them undertake research in computing.

 

The first two years are dedicated to computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms, programming, automata and languages, database systems and electronics. In the last two years students take more advanced courses including electives. The courses includes Transaction processing systems, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, human computer interface, advanced computer architecture, distributed computing systems, neural systems, parallel computing systems and digital image processing.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities occur in a wide variety of settings including software companies, computer assembly and integration companies, private and public sector.


Graduates are prepared to work in the following areas: designing and building software, developing effective ways to solve computing problems, such as storing information in databases, sending data over networks; and providing new approaches or devising new and better ways of using computers to address new challenges in areas such as robotics, computer vision and digital forensics.


A career path in this area can also involve advanced graduate work, leading to a position of university lecturer or industrial researcher.

 

Entry Requirements

 

- KCSE mean grade of C+ and a minimum of C in Mathematics, Physics and English or

- JKUAT Diploma in IT with a Pass

- The program takes 4 years
