French Embassy Nairobi Audiovisual Attaché to Eastern Africa, Ms. Charlotte Deflassieux and the  Executive Director of Kenya Film Commission, Mr. Peter Mutie met with MMU’s management team which comprised of , among others, the Principal, Prof. Walter O. Oyawa, the Deputy Principal, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. Douglas Shitanda and the Dean, Faculty of Media and Communication, Prof. Murej Mak’Ochieng at MMU grounds to discuss a future partnership between Toulous University in France and MMU.

The delegation was led on a tour of the University College where they visited, among other places, MMU’s TV Studio and 99.9 FM. M/s Charlotte was very impressed by what she saw saying, “Kenya has a lot of potential and talented students and only very this little is missing from them which this partnership with Toulous University will hopefully provide them with.

The partnership will see MMU media students benefit from the rich history France has in the film making industry that has seen it produce famous films such as ‘les miserable’, ‘La Regal de Jeu (The Rules of the Game)’ and ‘La Grande (The Grand Illusion)’. This partnership will facilitate exchange programs between the two universities, further training for our students and lectures delivered to our students from French experts through our world-class teleconferencing facilities. In sight of the language barrier between the two countries, training in French will be facilitated, for the students selected for the exchange program, so as not to limit the selection process to only French speaking students.

Prof. Oyawa was ecstatic as he expressed his pride at the lengths MMU has grown. “We are proud to be giving our students access to great personalities, facilities and soon extensive cultures through the exchange program,” expressed Prof. Oyawa. His joy and gratefulness to the Kenya Film Commission and CNC in France for facilitating this partnership was very apparent to all.

MMU is now planning a visit to Toulouse University where technicalities will be sorted, any issues ironed out and the Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities signed as soon as possible.

As said by Prof. Mak’Ocheing, “The best is yet to come,” and this first meeting will lead to a great partnership that will further enhance the quality of education MMU offers hence increasing the quality of graduates it releases to the job market.
