Introduction

The course unit is intended to impact upgrading study in concepts and techniques in Mathematics to school leavers with mean Grade of C and below at KCSE, with a minimum Grade D+ in the subject.

This course unit will enable the trainee to pursue and adjust comfortably for the Engineering Diploma courses at KCCT, examinable by KNEC. The unit will also provide a firm base for further training in post-diploma courses. An evaluation TEST follows at the end of each course unit.

General Objective

At the end of the unit, the trainee should be able to:-

  • Identify, manipulate and apply relevant mathematical techniques to Engineering problems at hand.
  • Independently research, compile and use the mathematical material for future applications and advancement.

  • Measurements.
  • Force, weight and friction.
  • Parallelogram and Triangle of force.
  • Turning forces.
  • Newton's Laws of Motion.
  • Work, Energy and Power.
  • Machines.
  • Some Molecular Properties of Matter.
  • Light Rays and Reflection of Light.
  • Spherical Mirrors.
  • Refraction at Plane Surfaces.
  • Transverse Waves.
  • Production and Properties of Sound.
  • Examination.

Duration6 weeks

Entry requirements:

KCSE with Mean Grade C and at least D+ in Maths.

Intake: July

Examining Body: KCCT

Additional Information: For persons wishing to pursue a diploma course in Engineering Course at KCCT, but who did not attain a pass in the subject at ‘O’ Level.
