Nancy Booker

Nancy Booker is the Chairperson, Department of Journalism and Communication at Multimedia University. She has taught Communication, Journalism and Electronic Media, for the last twelve years at Daystar University and at Multimedia University of Kenya. She gained professional experience in journalism when she worked for KBC and Nation Media Group as a programmes producer and programme researcher respectively. She also worked as the Head of Communication Department for ABC University in Liberia in 2009 and in 2010, under a faculty exchange programme.

She has vast experience in teaching the post graduate programmes and has supervised a number of student theses. She also possesses inimitable experience in curriculum development. Her research interests include media effects, audience and user studies, children and the mass media, environmental journalism, peace journalism, media ethics, multimedia and e-journalism.

Nancy has also been engaged in various media related consultancies with government and nongovernmental organization. Some of these organizations include; Nation Media Group (NMG), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Open Society, The Media Council of Kenya, Vivi Communications, Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB) and Sage Media.

She is currently a PhD candidate in Communication at Daystar University.

Participation as judge in the Great Debator's Contest  - a programme that runs on Citizen TV.

Co-wrote and Presented to the Adventist World Radio a Programming Strategy for its Radio Stations in Africa in 2005

Appointed member of the jury for the Africa Cine week festival and judged over 60 entries for the year 2004.

Community Service

Board Member and Communications Advisor for Amani Ya Juu a Non Profit Organization for Refugee Women from across Africa.


2007/2008: Star of Excellence Award (SOEA) for best Communication Lecturer

2000: Recognized as one of the best students in Communication - Broadcasting which led to an MA scholarship and subsequently a teaching position at the university.
