MMU celebrates stellar performance by students in sports

Multimedia University of Kenya celebrated impressive performance by students in various extra curricula activities during the 2017 sports awards ceremony.


The university honored the students with certificates of merit after winning a staggering of over 30 trophies in various disciplines.


Speaking during the awards ceremony, Vice Chancellor Amb. Prof. Festus Kaberia said that there is need to appreciate the effort required to achieve any form of success in the sporting arena adding success comes as a result of hard work, discipline and dedication.


He said the excellence performance by the students in various disciplines have tremendously increased the university’s national visibility and brand recognition.


“Your triumph this season has greatly increased our national visibility and brand recognition. This is a tremendous source of joy for the university management,” said the VC.


The VC also lauded various coaches for their dedicated work and the leadership in clubs and societies saying that the excellence performance by various teams and the growth of clubs is a direct result of good stewardship and great team work.


He therefore promised that the management will remain committed to uplifting the standards of sports and other extracurricular activities by investing in recreational facilities within the university.


In his remarks, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs Research and Innovation Prof. Paul Mbatia also lauded the students for lifting the image of the university through sports.

His sentiments were echoed by Ag. Dean of Students Dr. Jonathan Maweu who said that the extracurricular activities have not only helped in the growth of the university’s image, but have also enabled the students to identify and nurture their talents in various disciplines.


Dr. Maweu also thanked the management for their support towards students’ activities through the Dean of Students and through the Director of Sports Ofice.


The sports awards ceremony was held on Thursday, 22nd June, 2017 at the MMU Main Conference Hall to celebrate the students’ achievements in various extracurricular activities.
