MMU-RERC RESPONSIBILITY The MMU Renewable Energy Research Consortium (RERC) seeks to:
  1. Develop fundamental science and enabling technologies leading to the demonstration of Renewable Energy Technologies;
  2. Foster appreciation, innovation and technology in the production and utilization of Renewable as alternative sources of energy;
  3. Educate a new workforce for the coming green-energy based economy.

OUR TEAM Dr. David Wafula Wekesa, PhD (Consortium Director and Lead Trainer)  Dr. David Wafula Wekesa, is a proficient and experienced renewable energy practitioner with over fifteen (15) years’ experience in designing and installation of solar-wind hybrid mini-grid systems. He holds a PhD in Renewable Energy Mechanics. He is an expert, consultant and lecturer in renewable energy at the Faculty of Science & Technology (FoST) Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU). Dr. Wekesa is a licensed EU solar PV installer with certification by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). He is also a lead researcher in the ongoing National Research Fund (NRF) funded project to develop Wind-Solar Hybrid Systems for Electrification of Rural Households in Kenya. As a registered Training of Trainers (ToT) in Solar PV, he has been involved in training and coordinating professional short-courses in solar PV systems including the solar water pumping for the last (15) years. Among his recent projects includes conducting capacity building trainings in Machakos and Tana River Counties on borehole maintenance and solar water pumping installations, respectively. Presently, he is the Project Director Renewable Energy Research Consortium (RERC) and coordinates Renewable Energy Short Courses (RESC) at Multimedia University of Kenya. Click here to view CV Prof. Dr-Eng. Livingstone M.H. Ngoo, PhD (Director BPS and Lead Trainer) Prof. Livingstone M. H. Ngoo is a Professional Electrical Engineer, University Administrator, Researcher and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FoET) Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU). He holds a PhD in Electrical Power systems. His expertise in renewable energy has enabled him to advise and supervise solar and wind power installations in several rural and urban areas. He has worked in University administration as chairman of department, dean of faculty, director of academic programmes and Registrar Academics. He has been a resource person in developing curricula for various degree programmes at TVET institutions and Universities. Presently, he serves in the position of Chairman of County Education Board, Taita Taveta County and Resource person for the Commission for University Education (CUE). He is currently the Director Post Graduate Studies (PGS) at Multimedia University of Kenya. Mr. Benjamin Elmard Ogweno (An Intern) Benjamin is a practicing energy professional with a focus on solar water pumping systems. He holds a bachelors degree in Renewable Energy and Technology from Multimedia University of Kenya. He aspires to grow with a leading organization that utilizes abilities to the fullest extent possible, helping to realize and develop his potential and be a part of a team that scales great heights through continuous learning process and utmost dedication. He is currently an intern at the MMU Renewable Energy Research Consortium (RERC). Miss Lydiah Kagure Muriuki (An Intern) Lydia is a renewable energy expert with a focus on renewable energy technologies coupled with computer programming. She holds a bachelors degree in Renewable Energy and Technology from Multimedia University of Kenya. She aims to expand her knowledge-base, proficiencies, work experience and expertise by pursuing postgraduate studies in renewable energy and systems in order to become a notable renewable energy scholar and overall renewable energy and systems connoisseur. She is currently an intern at the MMU Renewable Energy Research Consortium (RERC). Miss Nkooyio Veronica Terenoi (An intern) Veronicah is a renewable energy technician with expertise and passion for access to clean energy technologies for rural, off-grid communities and grid connected.  She has professional experience in development of renewable energy projects including biogas, waste to energy and solar technologies. She has previously been involved in renewable energy research projects at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute. She holds a bachelors degree in Renewable Energy and Technology from Multimedia University of Kenya. She is currently an intern at the MMU Renewable Energy Research Consortium (RERC).
