Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) has taken a significant step toward international collaboration following a high-level engagement with the Iranian Embassy in Nairobi. A delegation led by MMU Council Chairman Dr. Albert Kochei on Wednesday 23rd April 2024 paid a courtesy call on the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Dr. Ali Gholampour. The meeting, held at the Iranian Embassy, focused on building strategic academic and research linkages between MMU and leading Iranian universities.
Dr. Kochei in his remarks informed the Ambassador that MMU was as a leading technical university in Kenya and wished to expanding and enhance its teaching, research, and innovation capacity through collaborations with other institutions of higher learning. He expressed the University’s interest in tapping into Iran’s academic excellence to enhance MMU’s ability to deliver high-quality education and develop solutions to societal challenges. Dr. Kochei suggested potential collaboration areas including Media and Communication Studies, Engineering, Information Technology, and the Sciences.

In his remarks, Ambassador Gholampour welcomed the initiative and affirmed Iran’s readiness to facilitate and support the creation of partnerships between MMU and Iranian institutions of higher learning. He noted that Iran had several globally ranked universities which are ready to build partnerships with MMU.
Dr. Kochei assured the Ambassador of the MMU Council’s full support for the proposed partnerships, including collaborative research projects, academic exchange programmes for both students and Lecturers and joint innovation initiatives. He also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange to strengthen the growing relationship between Kenya and Iran.
Accompanying Dr. Kochei were Prof. Livingstone Ngoo, Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs, Research & Innovation, Dr. Isaac Mutunga, Dean – Faculty of Media & Communication, Dr. Edward Odhong, Chair – Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mr. Mutia Mwandikwa, Manager – Corporate Affairs. The Iranian Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Abbas Shahbazi, Second Secretary.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to build on this inaugural engagement and work closely to advance mutually beneficial academic and cultural interaction for the benefit of both nations.
