On 27th June 2025, Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) signed two landmark Memoranda of Understanding — one with the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) and another with the Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI) — marking a significant step forward in advancing film production, animation, artificial intelligence education, and digital media training for students and faculty.
The MoU with KFC is expected to open up exciting opportunities for MMU students in the film and creative arts space. These include practical training through workshops, internships, and apprenticeships; industry talks and guest lectures by leading professionals; mentorship programmes; and access to modern production studios and equipment. It also paves the way for student participation in film showcases and competitions, as well as exposure to global distribution platforms. This aligns strongly with the Government of Kenya’s commitment to leveraging the creative industry as a vehicle for telling Kenya’s stories and creating meaningful employment opportunities for the youth.
Meanwhile, the partnership with ADMI focuses on boosting digital transformation through artificial intelligence and multimedia training. The collaboration includes joint capacity-building initiatives, faculty exchange programmes, co-location of key activities, and resource sharing across multimedia, technology, and business disciplines — all geared towards equipping students with cutting-edge, future-ready skills.
Present at the signing ceremony were senior MMU leadership, including the Chairperson of the University Council, Dr. Albert Kochei, Deputy Vice Chancellor (AF&P) Prof. Geoffrey Rurimo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (AAR&I) Prof. Livingstone Ngoo, Director of Research & Innovation Dr. David Wekesa, and Dean of the Faculty of Media & Communication Dr. Isack Mutunga, among others.
The KFC delegation was led by Board Chairman Mr. Sudi Wandabusi and CEO Mr. Timothy Odhiambo Owase, while the ADMI team lead by Ms. Caroline Sila, the Head of School.
These two strategic partnerships reaffirm MMU’s position as a premier institution for film, media, and digital education in Kenya and the region. Together, we are nurturing a new generation of storytellers, innovators, and leaders ready to thrive in the global creative economy.
