MMU Academic Staff call off strike after UASU, Management sign return-to-work agreement

Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) lecturers have called off their internal strike following a successful meeting between the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) MMU Chapter and the institution’s top management that culminated into signing of a return-to-work agreement.

The decision to call off the internal strike was arrived at after a high-level meeting between UASU, led by the National Secretary-General Dr. Constantine Wasonga and MMU Chairman of Council represented by Hon. Dr. Moses Ole Sakuda, held at the university’s conference hall.

The meeting, which also involved MMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Rosebella Maranga, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation Prof. Dr-Eng Livingstone Ngoo, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Finance and Planning Prof. Geoffrey Kihara, UASU Secretary MMU Chapter Mr. Onesmus Mutio, UASU Chairman, MMU Chapter Mr. Omondi Osano among others, resulted in a joint return to work agreement that affirmed both parties’ commitment to restoring normalcy and addressing the lecturers’ grievances through continued dialogue and structural reforms.

“Having resolved all the issues raised in the strike notice, UASU has agreed to call off the strike and all academic staff members to resume duty on Tuesday 18th November, 2025,” reads the agreement.
