MMU students elect new leaders

Multimedia University of Kenya students have elected new leadership team to steer the Multimedia University of Kenya Students Association (MUKSA) following elections held between March 2 and March 5, 2026.

In a hotly contested election, Malcomx Descartes Odhiambo was elected new MUKSA Chairperson. He will be deputized by Nyangeri Julian Nyanchama as Vice Chairperson, while Odhimbo Omanga Felix takes the position of Secretary General.

Other officials elected to the executive include Abubakar Fugicha Happi as Finance Secretary and Otieno Jackline Achieng who will serve as Secretary for Academics, Clubs and Societies. Amoke Ezekiel Omondi was elected Secretary for Sports and Entertainment, while Omondi Evance Odongo will serve as Secretary for Special Needs, Environment and Health.

In MUKSA Congress, students elected representatives from various faculties. Phenias Antony Omondi was elected representative for Business and Economics, while Angel Francis David Muli will represent Media and Communication. Nyakuru Sakari was elected representative for Science and Technology, and Opruto Abigail Omweno will represent Computer and Information Technology.

Other congress members include Timothy Japheth Wambua representing Social Science and Technology, Kanyiri Muchiri Whyet representing Engineering and Technology, and Malesi Chelsea Khakayi representing Female Halls. Gitara David Munene was elected representative for Male Halls.

Owino Valentine Achieng will represent female non-resident students, while Wanjiru Cliff Collins Wanjohi will represent male non-resident students. Kariuki Mercy Nyambura was elected as the TVET representative.

In a communication issued by the Dean of Students Dr. Paul Obonyo, the elections were described as free, fair and transparent despite isolated incidents reported during the public debate stage.

Swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected MUKSA officials is scheduled to take place on March 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the university’s Conference Hall.

The new student leaders are also expected to undergo a student leadership training programme scheduled from March 23 to March 28, 2026 as part of preparations to assume their roles in representing student interests and supporting governance within the university.
