Professional Bio:
Dr. Joy Elosy Kawira Mutegi is a Lecturer of Applied Mathematics at the Multimedia University of Kenya with over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics (2023), an MSc in Applied Mathematics (2010), and a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics (2007) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, as well as a Diploma in Science Education from Kenya Science Teachers College. Her expertise lies in applied mathematics, educational assessment, and digital pedagogy, underpinned by a strong interdisciplinary approach.
Since joining Multimedia University of Kenya in 2012, Dr. Mutegi has contributed significantly to academic development, serving as Chairperson (Head of Department) from 2017 to 2024 and as Departmental Examinations Coordinator in 2016. Her leadership and teaching experience reflect a sustained commitment to academic excellence, curriculum development, and student mentorship.
She is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Kenya Women in Mathematical Sciences Association (KWIMSA), the Association of African Women in Mathematics (AAWM), and the East African Network of Women in Basic Sciences (EANWoBAS). Internationally, she is a volunteer with Professors Without Borders (ProWiBo), supporting institutions in advancing digital pedagogy, promoting the responsible use of AI in education, and enhancing students’ employability skills.
Her research interests span applied and pure mathematics, statistics, economics and financial mathematics, responsible AI in education, educational assessment systems, and digital pedagogy. She has published widely in areas such as financial modeling, operator theory, fluid dynamics, and fractional calculus, including work on Hidden Markov Models in cryptocurrency markets. Dr. Mutegi is also an active member of professional organizations supporting women in STEM, contributing to research collaboration, mentorship, and the advancement of mathematical sciences.
