Professional Bio
Prof. Iyaya Wanjala Charles is an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics and the current Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, with extensive experience in university teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership. He has taught and examined both Pure and Applied Mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while also contributing to curriculum development and institutional growth. Prof. Wanjala holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Kenyatta University, where his doctoral research focused on Singular Cauchy Problems. He also earned an MSc in Pure and Applied Mathematics and a BSc in Science from University of Nairobi. His academic and administrative experience reflects a strong commitment to advancing scientific innovation, higher education, and mathematical research in Kenya and beyond.
Prof. Wanjala’s research interests center on the application of Partial Differential Equations, particularly Singular Cauchy Problems of the Euler–Poisson–Darboux Equation, as well as mathematical modelling. He has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly publications in reputable international journals, with research spanning differential equations, optimization, mathematical modelling, and applied analysis. His recent work includes studies on COVID-19 SEIR modelling for populations with underlying medical conditions in Kenya, generalized derivatives, Hilbert Hardy inequalities, and nonlinear singular Cauchy problems. Through his research collaborations and mentorship of postgraduate students, he continues to make significant contributions to the field of applied mathematics and to the development of research capacity in higher education institutions.
