Top management visits State Department for Housing and Urban Development for consultative meeting

Multimedia University of Kenya top management, led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Rosebella Maranga, met with officials from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development for a consultative meeting over the ongoing construction of the affordable student hostels project.

The Vice Chancellor, who was accompanied by Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Finance and Planning Prof. Geoffrey Kihara, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation Prof. Livingstone Ngoo, was received by the Director, Civil Servant Housing Scheme and Head of Institutional Housing at Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Arch. Julius Wairagu
Prof. Maranga expressed her gratitude to the government of Kenya through the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, saying that the construction of student hostels is a transformative initiative under the affordable housing programme.

“This milestone demonstrates the Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting higher education through integrated infrastructure development.

She said that MMU remains fully committed to partnering with Ministry and all other stakeholders to ensure timely and successful completion of the project.

Her sentiments were echoed by Arch. Wairagu, who reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to implementing the affordable housing programme, said that the State Department for Housing and Urban Development will work with the university to ensure the construction of the MMU student hostels is completed within the set timelines.

The MMU affordable student hostels project entails the construction of three modern hostel blocks, with a total capacity of 2,520.
Prof. Maranga said the project will greatly address the shortage of affordable student housing while also enhancing both the learning environment and student welfare.

“This initiative aligns with the Government’s Affordable Housing Agenda and the University’s Strategic Plan to offer a holistic student experience,” said the VC.

Also in attendance were Registrar Academic Affairs, Dr. Joash Mulabe, Legal Officer, Mr. Wilson Kagwe, among others.
