MMU VC Prof. Maranga applauds Government partnerships, urges graduates to seize emerging opportunities

Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) Vice Chancellor of Professor Rosebella Maranga has lauded the government’s continued support for higher education and challenged graduates to take full advantage of youth empowerment programs aimed at building their careers and businesses.

Speaking during the university’s 12th Graduation Ceremony, Prof. Maranga highlighted major national development projects already taking shape at MMU — calling them “a testament to the fruitful partnership between the government and the university.”

“I remind our graduates of the numerous government programs that target them. Take advantage of these programs to gain work experience or start your own businesses. The future belongs to those who act, not those who wait,” she said.

Prof. Maranga commended the Government of Kenya, led by President William Ruto, for selecting MMU to benefit from the Affordable Housing Programme, which includes the construction of new student hostels under the State Department of Education and Urban Development.

“We are among the universities selected for this project, and construction has already begun. We are very happy to see this vision taking shape right here at our university.”

She also announced the construction of a paved footpath from MMU to Rongai Town by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), a project designed to enhance the safety of students and staff commuting to and from campus.

Additionally, Prof. Maranga revealed ongoing progress in the construction of a new modern library, being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, to support research and academic excellence.

“These projects underscore the government’s confidence in MMU’s potential and our role in advancing Kenya’s innovation and education agenda,” she said.

The VC also celebrated MMU’s continued collaboration with the Government of South Korea, which supports the Kenya-Korea Information Access Center located within the university. The center provides advanced ICT facilities that enhance teaching, learning, and research.

“We are deeply grateful to the Korean government for this valuable partnership. Their experts have already completed site preparations, and we look forward to seeing new developments take off in the coming month,” Prof. Maranga said.

Prof. Maranga extended appreciation to MMU’s faculty and administrative staff for their dedication to teaching, research, and service delivery. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards through its ISO 9001:2025 Quality Management System, which demands continuous self-assessment and improvement.

“We must strive every day to enhance our services, ensuring relevance, competitiveness, and impact,” she said. “Our reputation as a university of choice continues to grow, as shown by the overwhelming number of students enrolling in our programs each year.”

Prof. Maranga encouraged graduates to pursue lifelong learning and to live by the values of integrity, excellence, and service, quoting former U.S. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, that “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
