Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) has honoured outstanding student talent after its choir and Mr & Miss MMU champions received awards in recognition of exemplary performance at national and institutional levels.
The awards ceremony, which took place on Friday, February 12, 2026, was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Rosebella Maranga and Mr. Moses Munene, Branch Manager of Equity Bank Ongata Rongai.

The university choir was recognised for its impressive performance at the Kenya Music Festival national level held from August 4–14, 2025 in Meru. Performing the choral piece Wakenya Tuna Bahati, the choir emerged position three in the Equity Bank choral music category.
In recognition of the achievement, Equity Bank awarded the university a trophy and a cheque of KSh 30,000.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Maranga congratulated the students, trainers and staff for the remarkable accomplishment, noting that the performance carried a powerful message of optimism and unity for Kenyans.

“Through your performance, you demonstrated that music is more than entertainment. It is a language that communicates values, shapes narratives, builds cohesion and affirms identity,” she said, adding that the recognition by Equity Bank reflects a strong partnership that supports creativity, youth empowerment and cultural development.
She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to nurturing performing arts alongside academic excellence and hinted at plans to expand performing arts initiatives to provide broader participation opportunities for both students and staff.
The ceremony also recognised winners of Mr and Miss MMU 2026, organised by the Multimedia University Students Association (MUKSA) during a recent Cultural Week celebration.
The beauty pageant was held on January 31, 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre as part of activities celebrating diversity and student creativity.

Prof. Maranga commended MUKSA for successfully organising Cultural Week, describing it as an important annual platform for showcasing talent in music, dance, cuisine, modelling and other creative expressions. She assured students of continued institutional support for co-curricular activities, including performing arts and sports.
Equity Bank’s Mr. Munene congratulated the choir for the national achievement and encouraged them to aim even higher in future competitions, pledging continued sponsorship and collaboration.

“We are ready to support and partner with the university throughout the year,” he said. “Beyond music, we collaborate in financial literacy programmes, environmental initiatives, health outreach and sports to ensure students grow into well-rounded graduates.”
Dean of Students Dr. Paul Obonyo thanked Equity Bank for supporting the Kenya National Music Festival and for recognising the university’s achievement through the trophy and cash award.

The event was also attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation Prof. Livingstone Ongoo, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Finance and Planning Prof. Geoffrey Kihara, Drama Club Director Mr. Peterson Abuga, and MUKSA outgoing Chairperson Mr. Remmy Onyango, among other university officials and students.
